As a trainee solicitor, you will be given a level of responsibility that requires you to develop judgment, advocacy skills and the ability to read and apply the law independently. You will be exposed to a broad mix of work, from contentious to non-contentious work and from transactional to non-transactional work. You will work day-to-day alongside senior colleagues, who will supervise your work and ensure that you build a strong foundation for a successful legal career.
Am I eligible to apply for a training contract?
While the firm prefers to offer training contracts to candidates who have completed a vacation scheme with the firm, we also consider applications from candidates who were unable to commit to a vacation scheme with us prior to their application for a training contract. Candidates are expected to be current LLB, JD or PCLL candidates of Hong Kong universities.
When will applications be open and when will applications be reviewed?
As the firm prefers to offer training contracts to candidates who have completed a vacation scheme with the firm, candidates who have not been able to do so will have to go through a separate submission through the firm website, which operates on a rolling basis.
What are the next steps after submitting the application? When will I know if I have secured a training contract?
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a one-on-one interview during which they would be asked to share their experiences, capabilities and interests while also learning about the firm. Successful candidates will be asked to attend a second interview during which they would be assessed for their technical skills by working through a mix of situational and behavioural questions as well as case studies. The firm aims to make offers within three weeks of the second interview.
What else should I enclose to accompany my application for submission?
On top of completing all sections of the online application form, which includes a short essay prompt, please attach your curriculum vitae, relevant academic transcript(s) and a cover letter.
