Overview

We offer summer vacation schemes intended both to provide law students with an opportunity to understand the firm's culture and work life at the firm and to enable us to evaluate an individual student's potential to join the firm as a trainee solicitor.

Q&A

Our vacation scheme is open to law students in their penultimate or final year of studies in their Bachelor of Law (LLB), or in their Juris Doctor (JD) programs.

As there are a total of 8 cohorts (6 during summer and 2 during winter) throughout the year, you can only apply for a specific scheme during designated periods. Applications are reviewed within two weeks after the closing dates and invitations to interviews will be extended accordingly.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a one-on-one interview during which they would be asked to share their experiences, capabilities and interests while also learning about the firm. Successful candidates will be asked to attend a second interview during which they would be assessed for their technical skills by working through a mix of situational and behavioural questions as well as case studies. The firm aims to make offers within three weeks of the second interview.

On top of completing all sections of the online application form, which includes a short essay prompt, please attach your curriculum vitae, relevant academic transcript(s) and a cover letter.

Vacation Scheme students will be exposed to a full spectrum of live legal matters that will allow you to hone and demonstrate your abilities in a wide range of legal issues. You will work closely alongside senior colleagues on real cases and active client files under direct supervision and guidance.

Those who demonstrate outstanding calibre and potential during the vacation scheme will be invited to stay on for a training contract upon completion of their PCLL. It is not necessary to submit a separate application to be considered for a training contract.

However, while we prefer to select our trainee solicitors through our vacation scheme program, we do accept direct training contract applications from students who are unable to take part in a vacation scheme.

Our firm usually takes on 12 vacation scheme recruits during the summer and 4 during winter. One to two training contracts are offered each year.

How to Apply

We host Vacation Schemes both in the summer and winter.

Stage 1: Online application for our Vacation Scheme

At this stage, we simply want to know about more about you. You will be asked to provide details about (i) your education, (ii) your qualifications, and (iii) any relevant work experience that you may have.

Stage 2: First Interview

During the first interview, we aim to get to know each other. We may ask about your skills, capabilities and experience as well as your interests and personal history. The process is more informal. We use this opportunity to learn more about you and to present our firm to you.

Stage 3: Second Interview

We invite a select group of candidates from the first interview to attend a second interview. This process is more formal. We assess your skills and capabilities using a mix of technical, situational and behavioural questions.

Stage 4: Hiring Decision

We aim to make Vacation Scheme offers within three weeks of the second interview

Stage 5: Vacation Scheme

Vacation Schemes typically last 2 weeks. During this time, you will have the opportunity to take on real responsibility on active client files under direct supervision and guidance. We use the Vacation Schemes as a critical means to assess whether we believe you would fit the firm in terms of culture, technical ability, ability to communicate, attention to detail and work ethic. We offer training contracts to a select group of interns.
