TIMOTHY LOH LLP is looking for a Legal Clerk to join its legal services team.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will take a hands-on role assisting primarily with litigation matters but also basic corporate matters.

Key responsibilities include:

Litigation
  • Drafting court documents and basic correspondence, preparing court bundles, filing and serving documents

  • Conducting basic searches on prospective litigants

  • Liaising with external parties (e.g. law enforcement and banks)

Corporate
  • Preparing Company Registry (CR) filings, board resolutions, shareholder resolutions and related corporate action documentation

  • Maintaining statutory books and records including applicable shareholder and director registers, minute books and significant controllers register

  • Preparing documents for opening of bank accounts and liaising with banks on account openings

  • Conducting basic corporate due diligence

  • Preparing routine notices to investors of public investment schemes

  • Completing forms and checklists in relation to applications and notifications to the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Insurance Authority (IA) and in respect of money service operator (MSO) licenses and money lender licenses

  • Preparing statutory returns and filings for businesses including as required by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD)

General
  • Liaising with prospective clients to prepare proposals and to onboard clients

  • Communication with clients to take instructions and to update them on progress of matters

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of High Court Registry practices, the Rules of the High Court and High Court Practice Directions

  • Good knowledge of court applications commonly involved in commercial proceedings and relevant procedures and paperwork, including applications for disclosure, injunction, summary judgment, default judgment and garnishee proceedings.

  • Good knowledge of Hong Kong company and related CR practices

  • 3-5 years of experience performing similar tasks in a law firm

  • High level of proficiency in English

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • Attention to detail
