Q1: Am I eligible to apply for the vacation scheme?

Our vacation scheme is open to law students in their penultimate or final year of studies in their Bachelor of Law (LLB), or in their Juris Doctor (JD) programs.

Q2: When will applications be open and when will applications be reviewed?

As there are a total of 7 cohorts (6 during summer and 1 during winter) throughout the year, you can only apply for a specific scheme during designated periods. Applications are reviewed within two weeks after the closing dates and invitations to interviews will be extended accordingly.

Q3: What are the next steps after submitting the application? When will I know if I have secured a place in the vacation scheme?

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a one-on-one interview during which they would be asked to share their experiences, capabilities and interests while also learning about the firm. Successful candidates will be asked to attend a second interview during which they would be assessed for their technical skills by working through a mix of situational and behavioural questions as well as case studies. The firm aims to make offers within three weeks of the second interview.

Q4: What else should I enclose to accompany my application for submission?

On top of completing all sections of the online application form, please attach your curriculum vitae, relevant academic transcript(s) and a cover letter.

Q5: How long is each vacation scheme and when do they take place?

All vacation schemes last two weeks. Please refer to our vacation scheme recruitment page for further details of the dates of each cohort.

Q6: Who are we looking for in a vacation scheme candidate?

We continuously look for talented, ambitious and creative people. We value intelligence, integrity, ambition and commitment - a commitment not only to excellence in service to clients but also a commitment to a long-term career with us.

Q7: What practice areas will I be assigned during the vacation scheme? What will I be expecting on a day-to-day basis?

Vacation Scheme students will be exposed to a full spectrum of live legal matters that will allow you to hone and demonstrate your abilities in a wide range of legal issues. You will work closely alongside senior colleagues on real cases and active client files under direct supervision and guidance.

Q8: Will I be offered a training contract? Is it necessary for me to submit a separate application?

Those who demonstrate outstanding calibre and potential during the vacation scheme will be invited to stay on for a training contract upon completion of their PCLL. It is not necessary to submit a separate application to be considered for a training contract. However, while we prefer to select our trainee solicitors through our vacation scheme program, we do accept direct training contract applications from students who are unable to take part in a vacation scheme.

Q9: What is the firm’s yearly intake for vacation schemes? How many training contracts does the firm offer per year?

Our firm usually takes on 6 vacation scheme recruits during the summer and up to 2 during winter. One to two training contracts are offered each year.

While the firm prefers to offer training contracts to candidates who have completed a vacation scheme with the firm, we also consider applications from candidates who were unable to commit to a vacation scheme with us prior to their application for a training contract. Candidates are expected to be in their final year or penultimate year of law school in Hong Kong or UK or in the process of completing their graduate legal diploma in the UK.

As the firm prefers to offer training contracts to candidates who have completed a vacation scheme with the firm, candidates who have not been able to do so will have to go through a separate submission through the firm website, which operates on a rolling basis.
