What is an SFC Authorised Fund?
An SFC authorized fund is an investment fund, know technically as a collective investment scheme, that has been authorized by the Securities and Futures Commission (“SFC”).
Investment funds that will be marketed and sold to the retail public in Hong Kong require SFC authorization.
Investment funds that will instead be marked and sold exclusively to professional investors or outside of Hong Kong do not require SFC authorization. Hedge funds and private equity funds are typically restricted to professional investors so as to avoid SFC authorization.
